DON'T YOU JUST WANT TO DIVE IN?!
Well, I sure wanted to...and DID!! Okay, so maybe not so much a DIVE as a slow and careful creep...but awesome all the same! This is a picture of the "natural" pool (natural meaning the water is rain water), at the Young Life camp in Jarabacoa. I spent 3 wonderful days in the mountains last weekend! Each evening, it got so chilly, that I had to wear a sweatshirt and jeans. During the day, it was hotter than Santiago! We enjoyed kickball, volleyball, the "signs" game, and the pool. I was up at the camp, for an "Informational Leadership Weekend."
I'm going to give it a go!
The "highlight" was the "5-10 minute" (pshaw!) hike to the falls. (I have been subjected to more physical activity in my first month in the DR, than all of last year! Not necessarily an altogether BAD thing...) Once there, I thought it would be a GREAT idea to swim to the bottom of a "natural water slide." Yeah...I got sucked under...twice. The whole time, I thought to myself, "great. I am going to die doing something stupid. I knew it!"
I am not dead.
School is going really well! Although, teaching a class that is 100% ESL has been MUCH more challenging than I had thought. Next week, we begin our "ESL Special," 3 times a week. That will help a lot! The kids are amazing, but I still haven't gotten used to seeing them being picked up by chauffeurs and nannies. It is a stark contrast to the kids at church. the public "education" system is laughable. Very sad.
As always, I am looking for visitors! I am having such a great time...but the homesickness is very much present. It comes and goes in waves.
Jenn and I are looking to move to the new apartment sometime next week! Can't wait! I will be sure to post pics once we're in!
